My story goes a little bit further.  I am the stepmother - barely older than my husband's one and only daughter - who has grown daughters of her own.  Recently my husband past away and I saw just what he always said "they are only interested in me for what they are going to get".  Once they knew what they were receiving, which was not the bulk of the estate (and the bulk was distributed outside of the will), they refused to talk with me and in fact none of them chose to come to his funeral.  While he was dying they barely came to see him - living in the same town, the daughter would show up twice a week for 10-15 minutes, almost always while she was heading somewhere else.  I feel as if I am being punished for him loving me!
