Is it right to divorce if the previous divorce wasn't Biblically acceptable? |

Question:
Hi Ron, I really trust your judgement and have a blanket question for you...do you think, under any circumstances, that God would call a remarriage to divorce so that one of them can return to their former spouse? The former spouse who claims to be the Godliest one, told me that God Himself has told her that my husband is to return to her and that she is sitting back watching how He will bring this all full circle. It is a very scary and hurtful thing that she is doing...I too am a Christian, so is my husband. For her to be claiming that God has given her this "Word of knowledge" is confusing. It would seem to me unlikely that He would do this. Please advise...thank you so much and God bless.
Answer:
God has not told her this; it is not his will for couple's to divorce, no matter what the conditions of the previous marriage/divorce.
For you to divorce is covenant-breaking, the very thing that God hates (Malachi 2:16). All throughout scripture a remarriage is still a marriage (even when it arguably shouldn't have happened in the first place). Never does God ask us in scripture to do a sinful thing to "mend" a previous sinful thing. Two wrongs don't make a right.
His ex is having great difficulty letting go of him (perhaps understandably so) and she is now using spiritual guilt to sabotage your relationship. Love her, but deny her that much power in your marriage. |
