Life in a Blender (booklet for teens), Ron L. Deal |
by Ron L. Deal
Written for and published by Focus on the Family, 2007.*
Adolescence is tough enough by itself. Add to it the confusing feelings of living in a stepfamily and you've got a kid in need of direction. Written to teens (children ages 10+) this easy-to-read booklet from the President of Successful Stepfamilies offers perspective and emotional support to teens before or after their parent's remarriage. It addresses:
-
Confusing Blender Emotions
-
Common Blender Dilemmas including accepting a stepparent and finding truth when parent values conflict
-
Finding God in the Blender's Swirl
-
Loving Stepfamily Members Out of Choice
Finally, a resource just for teens!
To get the most from this resource, Ron suggests that you read the booklet first. Then, give one copy to each of your teenagers allowing them plenty of time to read it at their pace. Then, begin to ask questions and allow them to share with you how it has impacted their thoughts or feelings. Engage them in dialogue and listen to what they are learning or what they can identify with; don't emphasize what you wanted them to learn from the booklet.
Ask questions like: "What stood out to you most in the booklet?" "What did you learn that you wish someone would have told you before now?" "What part would you like for me to read to understand you better?" These questions will create open conversations that hopefully create greater understanding and trust in your home.
Includes one easy-to-read booklet (28 pages; 4.5" x 4.5"). Quantity discount available for two or more booklets.
